What happens when you pre-soak brown rice before cooking?

Quick-Cooking Brown Rice with Pre-Soaking

Swapping white rice for brown rice adds nutrients to your diet, but its longer cooking time can be inconvenient. Pre-soaking brown rice softens its fibrous bran layer, cutting cook time in half.

How to Pre-Soak Brown Rice:

  • Submerge rice in water for at least 90 minutes, or up to overnight. Use enough water to cover the rice plus an inch.
  • Before cooking, drain and rinse the rice to remove extra starch.

Cooking Tips:

  • Use a 2 to 2½:1 water-to-rice ratio, adjusting for soaking time. If soaked for over two hours, reduce water by ¼ cup per cup of rice.
  • Cook as usual and let the rice rest for fluffy results.

With pre-soaking, you'll enjoy perfectly tender brown rice in less time!
